A crash involving a tractor-trailer on New Jersey's Garden State Parkway left two women dead Saturday night, New Jersey State Police told New Jersey 101.5. The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
What State Police said
A car became disabled in the northbound center lane, just north of the Toms River toll plaza, around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, State Police Trooper Christopher Postorino said.
A sedan then struck the back of a tractor-trailer, and moments later an SUV also struck the truck, he said. Two women died, and another person was seriously injured, according to police.

The truck in the lane
The truck driver had reportedly parked behind the disabled car to block it from other vehicles, according to The Lakewood Scoop, as relayed by New Jersey 101.5. That detail came from the local news site and had not been confirmed by State Police.
Trucks are permitted on the Parkway south of Exit 105, New Jersey 101.5 noted. The crash was the fifth deadly crash on the Parkway in Ocean County this year, according to State Police records cited by the station.
A reminder for the night shift
Any stopped vehicle in a travel lane at night is a hazard for everyone approaching it. Truck drivers and other motorists can help by watching far ahead, slowing down when hazard lights or stopped traffic appear, and changing lanes early when it is safe.
