Owners of 69 new 2027 Great Dane Champion dry van trailers are advised not to use them until they are repaired, because the kingpin may protrude and keep the trailer from coupling properly, The Trucker reported Monday, Oct. 26. PACCAR is also recalling 310 new Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks over sleeper bunk restraints, and Volvo is recalling 5 VNL trucks. Truckers and fleet owners pulling new Great Dane dry vans, or driving a new Peterbilt, Kenworth or Volvo, should check all three National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recalls, which together cover 384 trailers and trucks.

Great Dane: do not use until repaired

Great Dane is recalling 69 certain 2027 Champion dry van trailers, The Trucker reported. The upper coupler may have an incorrect bottom plate, and the kingpin may protrude, which can keep the trailer from coupling properly.

Owners are advised not to use the trailers until they are repaired. Great Dane will inspect the trailers and replace the upper coupler assembly as needed, at no cost to owners. Owner letters are expected to be mailed Dec. 4.

Overdrive also reported the Great Dane recall. The recall comes as FTR reports U.S. trailer orders jumped 385% in September from a year earlier.

PACCAR: Peterbilt and Kenworth sleeper bunk restraints

PACCAR is recalling 310 certain 2027 trucks, The Trucker reported:

The sleeper bunk belt restraint webbing was not secured properly during manufacturing. Dealers will inspect the restraints and replace them as needed, at no charge. Owner letters are expected Dec. 13.

In other Kenworth news, the electronic parking brake is now standard on new 2.1-meter cab trucks. PACCAR also faces a separate MX-13 engine class action; the claims in that case are allegations, not findings.

Volvo: cab bolts on 5 VNL trucks

Volvo is recalling 5 certain 2025 and 2026 VNL trucks, according to The Trucker. The cabs may have loose or missing structural bolts. Dealers will inspect and install or tighten the bolts as needed, at no charge. Owner letters are expected Dec. 14.

How to check if your truck or trailer is affected

Owner letters do not arrive until December, so owners who think their equipment may be affected can call their dealer with the VIN, or call Great Dane at 1-877-369-3493 about the trailers. A coupling problem is the kind of thing a careful walkaround can help spot, and the pre-trip inspection checklist covers the fifth wheel and kingpin area.

When a recall notice shows up for your truck or trailer, do you get it fixed right away or wait until it is in the shop anyway?
