Research and fact-checking

Each morning, research starts with a daily report on the trucking stories getting attention across the country. Every fact, number, date and quote is checked against its original source, and where it was found is recorded. Anything that cannot be confirmed is cut, or the story says it could not be confirmed.

Writing and web editing

Stories and guides are written from the checked research only, in plain, everyday language. Web editing covers headlines, summaries, links between related stories and the list of sources at the bottom of every article.

Editorial review

Every story and guide gets an editorial review and approval before it is published. Editorial review also handles corrections and updates, as described on the corrections page.

Newsletter

The daily newsletter brings the top trucking stories to subscribers each morning, with a short summary of each story and links back to the full articles. Questions about the newsletter go to news@bigrigdaily.com.

Images and design

Most story images are illustrations, and each one is labeled as an illustration under the image. When a real photo is used, it is credited to its source. Design also covers the look of the site and its pages.

Tools and data

The calculators, truck stop and weigh station map, truck laws by state page, company hiring directory and towing and repair finder are built and maintained by the tools team. Tools that use outside data, such as fuel tax rates, state laws or map listings, name their sources on the page.
