A crash involving multiple vehicles and an overturned tractor-trailer closed Interstate 77 North near Exit 35 in Mooresville, North Carolina, on the evening of Nov. 3, 2026, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol as reported by WSOC-TV and WCNC.

Update, 7:58 p.m. PT Nov. 3, 2026: WCNC updated its report at 10:58 p.m. ET to say only one lane of I-77 North was open and that the patrol expected only one lane to be open until 1:30 a.m. ET. Conditions may have changed since then.

What was reported

WSOC-TV published its report at 6:55 p.m. ET and said the patrol responded to the multiple-vehicle crash with an overturned tractor-trailer near Exit 35 on Tuesday night. At that time, the station said I-77 North was expected to be closed for several hours while the tractor-trailer and debris were removed.

WCNC, in a report first published at 7:19 p.m. ET, said the patrol asked drivers to avoid I-77 North in Mooresville. The crash happened just south of the Brawley School Road exit, which is Exit 35. The headline of the WCNC story says an injury was reported. The sources do not say who was hurt, how badly or whether the person was in the truck. WCNC says crews were working to remove the tractor-trailer and debris.

What is not known

The reports do not say what caused the crash, how many vehicles were involved, or whether the truck driver was hurt. They do not name the trucking company or the people involved, and they do not give a time when all lanes reopened. Big Rig Daily is not guessing at any of that. WSOC-TV's page also links to alternate routes, which Big Rig Daily did not open.

Planning around a closure

For current conditions, truckers on I-77 can check the North Carolina Department of Transportation or a traffic service before heading out. This is a general suggestion and not something the reports say.
