The stop
At about 12:20 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2026, Michigan State Police troopers stopped a tractor-trailer for traffic violations in Kimball Township, St. Clair County, north of Detroit, Truckers News reports. The driver gave troopers a manifest saying he was hauling "non corrugated folding cartons" from Laredo, Texas, to Belleville, Ontario, Canada, according to federal officials.
Department of Homeland Security agents arrived to help, with a narcotics-sniffing dog. Officials say the dog showed "alert behavior" near the trailer's rear door and back panels.

What agents say they found
Agents opened the trailer and found two trash bags and two duffle bags separate from the pallets of legitimate cargo, according to the report. Police said the four bags held numerous cellophane-wrapped and vacuum-sealed bricks. The total was 205 pounds of cocaine with a reported value of more than $2 million.
What the driver told officers
The driver was taken to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office for an interview, Truckers News reports. He waived his Miranda rights and said he picked up the trailer in Laredo. He told officers the trailer had been loaded before he arrived.
In court
On Monday, Nov. 2, the driver made his initial appearance before a U.S. magistrate judge, who told him federal prosecutors had charged him with possessing with intent to distribute more than 5 kilos of cocaine. He agreed to be held in custody pending trial. A preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 16.
Big Rig Daily is not naming the driver. The case is at an early stage, and the charge is an allegation that has not been proven in court.
What it means for truckers
The driver told officers the trailer was loaded before he got there, a situation many truck drivers face on pre-loaded trailers. The sources do not say what checks were made at pickup. Truckers who are unsure about a sealed or pre-loaded trailer can ask their carrier about its own procedures before rolling. A pre-trip inspection checklist covers the trailer basics.
