What the sheriff's office said
According to a spokesperson for the Preble County Sheriff's Office, deputies learned that a semi-tractor trailer that had been parked in a congested parking lot was trying to exit. While maneuvering out of the lot, the driver struck a parked dump truck, which was pushed into another parked semi.
The dump truck sustained heavy front-end damage, and its fuel tank was ruptured, causing diesel to leak onto the ground. After the crash, the driver of the first semi left the scene without stopping, heading southbound on North U.S. Route 127.

The West Manchester Fire Department and the Preble County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) responded to contain the diesel spill. The first WHIO report said a hazmat response had been requested and that no injuries had been reported.
What is not known
The reports do not identify the semi or its driver, say whether the driver has been found, or say what charges could result. They do not say how long the spill cleanup took or whether the diesel reached a drain or waterway. Big Rig Daily is not guessing at any of those details.
Why parking lots matter
Crowded truck stop lots, with tight rows and little room to turn, are a familiar part of the job. Early-morning departures can add to the pressure. This is a general observation and not a finding about this crash. Big Rig Daily's pre-trip inspection checklist includes walking around the truck before pulling out.
