What the sheriff's office said
The sheriff's office says a 69-year-old woman was driving a 2019 Buick Envision westbound on Highway 18, and a 38-year-old man was driving a 2019 Peterbilt semi northbound, when the two collided at the intersection. The car became entangled under the semi trailer.
The woman had to be extricated and was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital with what was described as life-threatening injuries. The semi driver was not injured. He was cited for failure to obey a stop or yield sign.

What a citation means
A citation is a charge for a traffic violation. It is not a finding of fault in court, and the sources do not say whether the driver intends to contest it. The sheriff's office statement, as relayed by KTIV, does not describe who had the right of way or how the vehicles approached the intersection beyond their directions of travel. Big Rig Daily is not drawing a conclusion about the cause.
What is not known
The sources do not give the woman's condition after the first reports, and they do not say whether the intersection has stop signs on all approaches or whether weather or visibility played a part. They do not identify the semi's company. The names of both drivers were published in the original report, but Big Rig Daily is not repeating them.
A reminder for rural intersections
Rural intersections often have long sight lines and fast cross traffic. Truckers crossing them generally need extra time to clear the intersection with a long trailer. That is general advice, not a finding about this crash. Big Rig Daily's pre-trip inspection checklist covers the equipment checks that support safe stopping.
