A crash on Interstate 95 in Martin County, Florida, late on Halloween night left three people dead. This report is written factually and with respect for those involved, based on what the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) told CDL Life. The crash is under investigation, and Big Rig Daily is not speculating about the cause.

What troopers say happened

The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2026, on northbound I-95 between mile markers 113 and 114. According to FHP, a 2012 Kenworth truck with a trailer was parked on the paved shoulder. A 2017 Toyota Camry was traveling in the outside northbound lane when, for unknown reasons, it left its lane and hit the left rear of the parked truck. The car then spun across all lanes of northbound I-95 and stopped on the left shoulder.

People involved

Three people in the car died, FHP said. The car's driver, a 31-year-old woman, and an 11-year-old girl were hospitalized with injuries. The truck driver, a 60-year-old Florida resident, was not injured. Big Rig Daily is not naming any of the people involved, and the source report did not identify the truck driver or a company.

The road

Northbound I-95 was closed for several hours and reopened at 5 a.m. on Nov. 1. Martin County Fire Rescue and the Martin County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.

What the report does not say

The report does not say why the truck was parked on the shoulder or for how long. It also does not say why the car left its lane, and FHP described the reason as unknown. Those facts are part of the ongoing investigation.

For truckers who stop on shoulders

Shoulders can be a risky place to stop, which is one reason truck parking is such a constant concern. Big Rig Daily has covered a Wyoming citation for shoulder parking and fatigue, the truck parking tips and apps guide and the semi truck breakdown checklist. None of those reports describe this crash, and nothing in the FHP statement suggests how the truck came to be on the shoulder.
